About the opportunity
The Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) are looking for a highly motivated and self-driven Research Officer to join their high performing team in the specialty of Maternal Fetal Medicine within the University of Sydney Reproduction and Perinatal Centre / Nepean Clinical School.
In this role, you will help develop and lead on a number of linked research projects in the area of maternal fetal medicine that will utilise various methodologies including a systematic review, survey of practice, multicentre data collection and development/submission of a grant application for a randomised trial. You will develop and nurture a network of partnerships, oversee the comprehensive management of data and research documentation, and facilitate impactful dissemination of research outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- carry out literature searches, code information, summarise literature, for the investigator team
- source information, research and prepare drafts for research meetings, publications and presentations
- undertake appropriate research procedures in accordance with relevant ethics protocols
- perform work activities relevant to the role's key accountabilities as approved by the Manager and commensurate to the role's classification level
- lead and optimise research projects, ensuring methodologies are refined and research goals are met.
- oversee the lifecycle of grant applications, from conceptualisation to final reporting, ensuring optimal funding acquisition
- provide advice on research direction, updating the team on the latest research methodologies and compliance requirements
- coordinate data management processes, ensuring thorough analysis and reporting that drives research insights
- strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders, enhancing research collaborations and joint initiatives
- streamline administrative processes, ensuring efficient management of research documentation, publications, and compliance paperwork
- take the lead in handling stakeholder communications, ensuring that concerns are addressed effectively and timely while fostering a culture of trust and collaboration within the work area and beyond
- facilitate timely report submission, uphold data integrity according to university systems, and partner with managers to advance compliance initiatives
- coordinate purchasing processes and resolve any discrepancies in payment schedules
- champion a proactive approach to health and safety, review and provide feedback on work area protocols, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent safety standards across tasks and projects.
About you
- demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to influence and negotiate to achieve required outcomes
- taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
- well-developed skills in communication (both verbal and written), including the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict with tact and discretion.
- experience in developing and working on research projects, protocols and designs, ethics submissions and grant applications
- experience in patient recruitment and sample collection and processing
- excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and have empathy and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
- strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritize workload during busy periods
- experience in working with women and families in public health, reproductive and perinatal care is desirable
