To work alongside and assist the Maternal Medicine leadership team (Lead Obstetrician, Lead Obstetric Physician and Consultant Midwife Maternal Medicine) to deliver the objectives of the NHSE Maternal Medicine Network Service Specification (2021) in the North East and North Cumbria. Provide maternity service wide midwifery support to ensure effective functioning of the Maternal Medicine Centre, as the central function of the NENC Maternal Medicine Network. To effectively undertake a review of maternity inpatients daily, identifying women with Maternal Medicine complexity (category B and category C) , across the maternity unit and ensuring appropriate review by a Senior Obstetrician/ Obstetric Physician particularly in relation to discharge planning and communication. Assist in the co-ordination of care for women with Maternal Medicine complexity who attend for care at the Maternal Medicine Centre (RVI) and require elements of care to be arranged in regional/home units.
Ensure all women with category B and Category C Maternal Medicine complexity have appropriate contraception plans and follow up with physicians as required. Acts as a role model to other members of the team, who may be interested in extending their knowledge and skill in relation Maternal Medicine. Develop, in conjunction with women, a programme of personalised, holistic care, centred around , physical, social, psychological, and cultural needs. Work autonomously within NMC Code, Trust & Directorate Guidelines to provide continuity of care/carer to a defined number of women.
Build positive and supportive relationships within the maternity unit, across the wider organisation and NENC, to enhance the quality of care and experience of women with Maternal Medicine complexity.
