Job Title: Strategic Initiatives Project Manager
The Midwives Association of British Columbia (MABC) is the professional non-profit association representing midwives in BC. Our mission is to sustain the midwifery profession through advocacy, continuous development, and enhancement of services, positioning midwives as primary care providers.
With over 400 dedicated members, MABC strives to ensure the highest standards of perinatal and sexual health care. We provide access to education and resources that support midwives in delivering exceptional care, expanding access to midwifery services, and promoting the development and sustainability of midwifery services in BC.
We are excited to announce a new position within our newly developed Strategic Initiatives Department: Strategic Initiatives Project Manager. This role will help increase the professional and political profile of midwives within the BC health care system and advocate for excellence in reproductive, newborn, and infant health care. Job Title: Strategic Initiatives Project Manager
Position Overview: directly reports to the Strategic officer, the Strategic Project Manager is responsible for overseeing strategic projects within the Midwives Association of BC. This role focuses on managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with MABC's strategic goals for 2025-2030, and driving initiatives that enhance the professional practice of Registered Midwives (RMs). The Strategic Project Manager will play a key role in expanding access to midwifery services, promoting the development and sustainability of midwifery, increasing the professional profile of midwives, and advocating for excellence in reproductive, newborn, and infant health care. Additionally, this role involves translating clinical knowledge into practice to ensure evidence-based care and continuous improvement in midwifery services.
Shared Responsibilities
· Works collaboratively within and across teams to ensure high-quality programs and services for members.
· Provides support to colleagues during periods of high workload.
· Attends and participates in staff and team meetings.
· Develop an annual work plan with the direct supervisor in the context of the MABC strategic plan.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Project Management:
· Manage strategic projects from inception to completion, such as workforce planning initiatives and expansion of midwives' roles.
· Coordinate with team members to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
· Track progress and outcomes using key performance indicators (KPIs), providing regular updates to the Strategic Officer.
· Develop strategies to expand midwives' roles and responsibilities.
· Oversee workforce planning initiatives and analyze workforce data.
· Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
· Identify and mitigate risks associated with strategic initiatives.
· Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders for successful project implementation.
· Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, making adjustments as necessary.
2. Development and Driving Models:
· Lead the creation and implementation of standardized models as part of the strategic plan.
· Promote the midwifery model of practice in BC, advocating for autonomous, community-based primary care.
· Regularly review and update models, incorporating feedback and emerging best practices.
3. Clinical Knowledge Translation:
· Translate clinical research and evidence into practical guidelines and protocols for midwifery practice.
· Conduct systematic literature reviews and critical appraisals of research using tools like GRADE.
· Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to support the adoption of evidence-based practices.
· Collaborate with midwives and healthcare providers to ensure guidelines meet the needs of the community.
· Monitor and evaluate the impact of clinical knowledge translation activities and make recommendations for improvement.
4. Expansion of Midwifery Services:
· Initiatives aimed at increasing the accessibility and scope of midwifery services across the province, ensuring comprehensive care for all individuals.
· Support MABC's mission to expand access to midwifery services, promote the development and sustainability of midwives, increase the professional and political profile of midwives, and advocate for excellence in reproductive, newborn, and infant health care.
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. PMP certification is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project management, preferably in healthcare or non-profit sectors.
Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare systems, midwifery practices, and clinical knowledge translation is an asset.
Skills:
· Proven experience in project management methodologies and tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana, Trello).
· Understanding of financial concepts and budgeting practices.
· Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
· Demonstrated ability to problem solve, persuade, analyze and implement.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
· Demonstrated analytical, statistical, research and indicator development skills.
· Professional tact and diplomacy, and confidentiality are required.
· Ability to work well in a dynamic and highly motivated team
· Strong attention to detail with high levels of accuracy.
· Efficiently manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and deadlines in a fast-changing environment
