SUMMARY OF POSITION
The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care in the context of a comprehensive reproductive health visit, in accordance with the Ottawa Women's Clinics' standards and guidelines, in an efficient, sensitive, professional manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Job functions include but is not limited to:
Counselling
- Charting patient information, administering IV, drawing blood, recording vitals
- Prepares patients for the health care visit
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history
- Taking vital signs, blood pressure, hemoglobin levels, etc.
- Confirming purpose of visit or treatment, and reviews medications and allergies
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results
- Answer questions and obtain written consents
- Starting IV locks, drawing blood, and on-site testing of hemoglobin levels
Operating room
- Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations and procedures
- Setup, clean, sanitize and prepare the OR for patients
- Starting intravenous locks and venipuncture (would be an asset)
- Administering IV and operating room medication
- Dispensing and administering IV, drugs, medications and controlled substances as directed by a physician
- Performs limited pelvic ultrasounds for surgical patients, medical patients, patient’s undecided about surgery, and follow-up ultrasounds
- Provides intra-operative ultrasound guidance to ensure the image allows determination of procedure completeness makes adjustments to equipment as required
- Completes written documentation for use in medical treatment
- Inventories and orders supplies for the OR and recovery area
- Inventories ultrasound room and recovery area supplies and orders as necessary
- Keeps ultrasound and emergency equipment in good order by following operating instructions and notifies Health Center Manager if repairs or maintenance is needed
Recovery room management
- Monitoring patient’s post-surgery
- Answering patient’s questions
- Administering IV fluids, monitoring vital signs, administering medication
- Charting and maintaining patient data in EMR
- Remind patients to contact the clinic for any questions, need to attend the ER and follow up plans with family physicians
- Patient discharge ensuring and documenting discharge criteria (Aldrete)
- Performs follow up duties on laboratory and ultrasound results via email, text and phone conversations
Reprocessing
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Maintain sterilization log and processes
- Follows and adheres to reprocessing standards
- Provide assistance to the OR nurse
- Completion of IPAC reprocessing certification (supported by the clinic)
OTHER GENERAL JOB DUTIES
General job duties will include:
- Maintains patient data in EMR/EHR and adheres to documentation standards to support efficient claims processing
- Adheres to clinic goals and policies regarding professionalism, minimizing patient wait time in the clinic and on the phone
- Adheres to a system for addressing patient complaints, and implementing patient satisfaction surveys following each visit
- Maintains confidentiality of all patient information, patient nonpublic personal information, and personal health information, as well as records directly or indirectly identifying any person currently or formerly receiving services from the clinic
- Complies with clinic confidentiality policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current valid RN license in Ontario
- MDR certification
- Experience in reprocessing and sterilization techniques
- Ability to work flexible hours
- ACLS certification preferred
- OB/GYN or family planning experience preferred
- Bilingual preferred

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $33.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
