About Our Unit
This specialized clinic-style unit is a part of Mount Sinai Hospital with two convenient sites at 700 and 600 University Avenue that run Monday to Friday. The program is a comprehensive service, dedicated to enhancing the well-being of both the mother and the fetus. We offer a range of services, including fetal ultrasound, assessment, early detection, in-utero therapy, and treatment. Collaborating with SickKids, our program delivers expert care in addressing fetal anomalies and in-utero surgical procedures.
Our primary focus is on the early identification of various conditions, such as preterm birth, fetal anomalies, placental health issues, and infectious diseases. Through timely surgical consultations and interventions, we aim to improve the long-term health outcomes for neonates.
In This Role You Will
- Coordinate and develop care plans, perform complex fetal sonography (including abdominal, TVS and Doppler’s), and assist with fetal procedures while supporting and teaching families throughout their high-risk pregnancy journey
- Provide obstetric/fetal ultrasound monitoring for both inpatients and outpatients across the Women’s & Infants’ Program (Triage, Labour & Delivery, Antenatal Unit, etc.)
- Engage in program planning, quality improvement, education, and professional development activities within the program through our various committees and unit-based council
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
- Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Current American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in OBGyn/Physics
- Applicants that have not completed this certification may be considered however as a condition of hire, must be successfully completed within 2 years from hire
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). Applicants in their final year or near completion will be considered
- 1-2 years recent experience with high-risk perinatal nursing in an ambulatory setting
- 1-2 years recent experience performing fetal ultrasound
- 1-2 years high-risk perinatal nursing in an ambulatory setting
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Perinatal Certificate
Skills and Knowledge
- Maternal-fetal physical assessment skills Superb communication, team work, and leadership skills
- Knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated ability to counsel individuals/families in crisis
- Demonstrated ability to carry out complex psychosocial individual and family assessments
- Experience in supporting families through perinatal loss
- Knowledgeable in fetal development, cardiology, hematology, nephrology, infectious diseases and placental health
- Computer literacy skills, comfortable with PowerChart, ConnectingOntario
- Demonstrated commitment to the development of a culture supportive of breast feeding
