Position Summary
Clinical Nurse Educator, Postpartum, Labour and Delivery and Associated Clinics Your goal in this position is to be accountable for fostering the development of clinical excellence and facilitating the provision of outstanding patient and family experiences with a strong and intentional focus on the Postpartum Unit, while also supporting our Associated Clinics and the Labour and Delivery Unit. In collaboration with the Clinical Team Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the development of a high-performance team, ensuring the delivery of quality and safe care for patients and families. You will be instrumental in creating a professional and healthy work environment for staff, physicians, and volunteers through leadership, advocacy for best-practices and research, policy development, and coaching. You will also participate in appropriate internal and external committees, project teams, and other related activities that support the implementation of leading practices in postpartum, associated clinics and Labour and Delivery interprofessional practice. You will collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Educators and related colleagues to promote person-centered care, participating in simulation, clinically relevant research, and developing, conducting, and evaluating innovative programs in the Postpartum Unit and beyond. You have in-depth knowledge of the patient populations, expert clinical nursing skills, simulation experience and act as a mentor, coach, and educational resource to nursing staff. You have highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). You have excellent organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes. You have strong project management skills, with the ability to give feedback. You have the ability to build relationships with peers and other contacts across the organization and externally to create opportunities for synergy/integration. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, learners, physicians, volunteers, and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Provide leadership and accountability at unit level for a high quality and safe patient/family experience, as well as corporate care initiatives in collaboration with the Clinical Team Managers and other members of the Postpartum, Labour and Delivery and Associated Clinics
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate programs to meet the educational needs of nursing staff, as well as other members of the clinical team (Social Work, Midwifery, etc.)
- Promote best practice and evidence-based care through the implementation of initiatives that are aligned with the organization’s strategic direction and program goals
- Lead and facilitate simulation activities to support experiential learning.
- Develop and provide educational opportunities for nursing staff to support professional development, as well as maintain competency and to expand knowledge base
- Critically appraise the research literature and review, revise and implements evidence-based practices
- Facilitate nursing staff to continually monitor and define competency-based requirements, interpret scope of practice, legislative and credentialing requirements
- Participate in conducting clinically relevant research and develop, conduct and evaluate innovative programs for specific patient populations
- Foster an environment that promotes patient/family centered care and interprofessional collaboration
- Review and apply current research literature to support and update best practices in Postpartum care.
- Maintain compliance with required Health & Safety, environmental and other legislative requirements
Qualifications
- BScN required, Masters in Nursing or Education preferred
- Current registration & good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Simulation certification or experience preferred
- Canadian Perinatal Nursing Certification (CPNC) preferred
- Completion of a recognized Breast-Feeding Course (RNAO- e-Learning, or INFACT Canada: 20-Hour Breastfeeding Course) required
- Minimum of 5 years Postpartum/Maternal Newborn experience required
- Current or recent experience in Adult Education
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Instructor Preferred
- ACoRN certification preferred
- Certification by the International Board Certified of Lactation Consultant Designation, preferred
