The Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine seeks a licensed clinical psychologist to provide clinical care, conduct research, and engage in program development with gender diverse individuals and their families within Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Pediatric Gender Program. The position carries a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry and includes participation in the Department’s APA-accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program.
Primary responsibilities include providing consultation-liaison services in outpatient clinics, brief and longer-term individual and family therapy, consultation with medical and psychosocial teams and biopsychosocial evaluations. Strong candidates will have previous experience and a strong commitment to working with transgender and gender diverse individuals and their families. Strong candidates will also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to function well as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, physicians, and nurses. Within the Gender Program, our team includes members of the Departments of Pediatrics, Endocrine Section, Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, General Pediatrics and Law. We also work very closely with adult members of the transgender community.
The position carries a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry in the Psychological Medicine Section and includes participation in the Department’s APA-accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program. The Psychological Medicine Section consists of traditional consult-liaison services on medical and surgical inpatient units as well as 14 integrated psychiatry and behavioral health programs in diverse medical and surgical outpatient settings. Yale New Haven Hospital is the primary teaching and clinical research facility of Yale School of Medicine and consistently ranks among the best hospitals in the United States.
Candidates should have interest and experience supervising predoctoral psychology interns and/or practicum students in behavioral medicine. Opportunities for teaching and supervision of psychology trainees as well as medical students, pediatric residents and nurse practitioners will be plentiful for this position. Although clinical and educational activities will be the primary focus of the position, research and other scholarly activity will be strongly encouraged, and opportunities exist for collaboration with established researchers.
Qualifications
Education
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program
- Internship training from an APA-accredited program in clinical child or pediatric health psychology
- Postdoctoral fellowship training in clinical child or pediatric health psychology
- Licenses, Certifications, & Experience
- Candidates must be licensed (or licensed eligible) within the State of Connecticut by the start date.
- Applicants with all levels of post-licensure experience will be considered, with strong preference for candidates with more extensive and recent experience with transgender and gender diverse individuals with chronic medical conditions.
- The ability to provide clinical services in Spanish would be an asset in this position but is not a requirement.
