About the Role
The Laboratory Assistant plays an essential role in the fertility journey by providing critical support in both the andrology and endocrinology laboratories. This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, compassionate, and excel in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Working closely with laboratory leadership, physicians, nurses, and technical staff, the Laboratory Assistant ensures timely and accurate processing, contributing directly to patient care, treatment success, and overall clinical outcomes.
We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our dedicated team at Pinnacle Fertility - Michigan in Grand Rapids, MI. This is a full-time, on-site position working Monday-Friday, with flexibility to work either 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM as needed. This role also requires a degree of flexibility, including participation in a limited weekend and holiday rotation based on laboratory needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with laboratory operations, audits, compliance checks, and reporting, including sample collection and handling.
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out processes.
- Manage and maintain cryogenic storage equipment, including handling and inventorying cryopreserved specimens (sperm, oocytes, embryos).
- Coordinate transportation of cryopreserved specimens with third-party vendors while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system and process medical record requests.
- Act as a primary point of contact between the laboratory, physicians, and nursing teams for lab-related coordination.
- Organize and manage laboratory paperwork, supply inventory, and administrative documentation as well as data submission.
- Assist with additional projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science, or medical technology (required).
- Experience: 6+ months of laboratory experience outside of coursework preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Compassionate and effective communicator, especially with patients
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Familiar with laboratory safety and quality control protocols
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour (Final offers based on experience, skills, and qualifications).
