Summary: Assists perinatologists and ultrasound technologists with ultrasound examinations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Greets patients and prepares patients for, and assists with, examinations.
- Prepares exam rooms and gowns for daily appointments.
- Prepares equipment and aids physicians during ultrasound exams.
- Maintains records of vital statistics and other pertinent data of patients.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment per OSHA guidelines.
- Maintains stock of medical supplies and medications.
- Verifies orders/reasons for ultrasound per chart notes. Updates problem list to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Extrapolate AFP, Amniocentesis, Materniti 21, and NT information from Athena and enter into Viewpoint.
- Schedule or coordinate the scheduling of internal patient appointments ensuring accuracy per MFM orders.
- Coordinates MFM schedules with outside specialists; maximizes efficiency of on-site patient flow. Reschedules as needed.
- Maintains log of amniocentesis procedures, reports normal results to patients.
- Provide information to patients regarding ultrasound procedures as directed by the physician.
- Fills in for other personnel as needed.
- Attends required meetings.
- Complies with Virginia Women's Center's policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flags regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women Center.

Education, Experience, And/or Licensure
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of VWC's computer system software and its functionality as it pertains to patient care.
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to ultrasound examinations.
Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records.
Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards.
Skill in performing assistants tasks appropriately.
Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules & operating and maintenance instructions.
Ability to type 30 words per minute.
Ability to maintain strictest patient confidentiality.
Ability to communicate with patients to ascertain needs.
Ability to obtain vital signs and monitor fetal heart and contractions.
Ability to demonstrate accuracy and efficiency in recording information in patient charts.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to respond with flexibility to changing workload or patient assignments.
Ability to perform effectively as a team member, supporting a patient-focused environment in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and volunteers.
Physical Demands
Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasional stress related to patient load and multiple demands.
Work Environment
Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Potential for exposure to hazards/bloodborne pathogens. Hepatitis B and TB test required.
