Summary: Facilitates efficient flow of mammography patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Greets and processes patients for exams by assisting with dressing and undressing, and escorting patients to and from the exam room.
- Reviews patient chart to ensure all prior images required by provider are available prior to mammogram. Obtains prior images as needed.
- Ensures exam/procedure room is appropriately supplied and set up to accommodate encounter based upon reason for patient visit.
- Reviews patient supplied history forms for completeness. Queries to obtain missing information. Explains and assists patients with completion of forms on an as-needed basis.
- Scans documents and links to patient medical records on an as-needed basis.
- Manages follow-up tracking for pathology and surgical referrals.
- Schedules patient appointments, manages cancellations and reschedules, and approves add-ons in coordination with tech.
- Maintain and order inventory of department supplies.
- Chaperones radiologists as needed.
- Other duties as necessary for appropriate recordkeeping in accordance with MQSA requirements.
- Attends required meetings.
- Complies with Virginia Women’s Center’s policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flags regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women’s Center.

Education, Experience, And/or Licensure
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of VWC's computer system software and its functionality as it pertains to patient care.
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to mammogram examinations.
Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records.
Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards.
Skill in performing assistant’s tasks appropriately.
Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules & operating and maintenance instructions.
Ability to type 30 words per minute.
Ability to maintain strictest patient confidentiality.
Ability to communicate with patient to ascertain needs.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to respond with flexibility to changing workload or patient assignments.
Ability to perform effectively as a team member, supporting a patient-focused environment in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and volunteers.
Physical Demands
Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasional stress related to patient load and multiple demands.
Work Environment
Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Potential for exposure to hazards/bloodborne pathogens. Hepatitis B and TB test required.
