We have an exiting opportunity for a Specialist Grade Dr for Anaesthesia
10PA to be worked Across Both Sites
Main duties of the job
- There are a total of 27 anaesthetic consultants employed across the two sites; 14 at STH and 13 at EGH. There are up to 18 anaesthetists in training who rotate between the two sites but cover on-calls at STH. There are 7 other anaesthetists at STH and 21 at EGH (Specialists/SAS/SD and Clinical Fellows). There are a total of seven operating theatres at STH (including two on labour ward), two at QMH and eight at EGH (including one on labour ward). Specialties at EGH include general surgery, colorectal, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics (elective), ophthalmology, ENT, cardioversions and dental lists. General anaesthesia is also given in endoscopy. Specialties at STH include emergency surgery, trauma/orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology, renal access ophthalmology with paediatric day surgery (ENT, dentals, endoscopy, urology, ophthalmology and general surgery) undertaken at QMH. Anaesthesia is also administered in obstetrics (both main sites) and radiology (STH).

- Both sites have an emergency department and provide obstetric services. Between October 2023 and September 2024, the department provided anaesthetic services to approximately 13,500 patients undergoing elective surgery and 3500 undergoing emergency surgery. There were approximately 4000 deliveries at the trust (1500 at EGH and 2500 at STH) with a caesarean rate of 42%, 20% being elective. Critical care, anaesthesia, theatres and pain services are delivered on both sites as part of the CCATP directorate. The Clinical Director leads the clinical governance process for CCATP and is responsible for the governance of the anaesthetic department.

- Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification
- Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in anaesthesia
