Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Fellow (Senior Registrar) in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a hugely exciting opportunity for ambitious and focussed individuals looking to develop and further their careers in an outstanding organisation. Most of our fellows' progress to consultant positions within the UK and abroad. We have fellows from many countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, the Middle East and India.
You will participate in our ST6-7 Obstetrics & Gynaecology rota which includes cover for first on-call obstetrics and gynaecology (with ST1-5 and consultant support); obstetric elective lists; wards; and clinics. This role is designed to support our obstetrics and gynaecology services, ensuring a safe and fully staffed rota. In turn, post-holders will gain exposure to a breadth of learning opportunities across our services as well as opportunity to develop experience in specialist interests. As senior registrars there are opportunities to develop your leadership skills and undertake quality improvement projects and audits. We expect that this post will expose you to the breadth of obstetrics and gynaecology cases and prove an invaluable experience.
We have a variety of specialist lines across our Senior Registrar rota, details of the specific line available can be discussed with the hiring manager.
Main duties of the job
Our Maternity Unit delivers around 6600 women per year, with a mixture of general and specialist pathways being delivered antenatally and postnatally. We provide a comprehensive Gynaecology service, containing a dedicated Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit, a standalone Gynaecology Outpatient environment, and elective operating at St Thomas' and Queen Mary's Hospiital Sidcup.
We have an exceptional reputation for education with protected time for teaching and consultant led educational supervision, and excellent opportunities to develop skills in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (clinical, research, educational and service improvement leadership). There is an international reputation for research and development in maternal medicine, assisted conception and prematurity.
As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.
