Job Overview
We are a busy anaesthetic department with a commitment to train both local and overseas Trainees and have an active educational programme. The successful candidate will hold FRCA or equivalent and have evidence of extensive experience with anaesthesia.
Successful candidates will undertake anaesthetic sessions across a range of surgical specialties including general surgery, trauma, maxillo facial surgery, urology and gynaecology.
The anaesthetic department at Worthing is extremely forward thinking and has established itself within the research arena, with multiple presentations at national and international level.
The hospital is located between the sea and the south downs national park, giving ample opportunity to pursue a variety of different interests.

Worthing Hospital has 8 main operating theatres, 2 day surgery theatres and an obstetric theatre. The Anaesthetic department provides anaesthesia for over 100 routine operating lists per week, servicing all major specialties including orthopaedics, trauma, Bariatrics (not at Worthing site), Maxillo facial surgery, Gynaecology, Breast, ENT, colorectal, urology and ophthalmology.
Anaesthesia is also provided for the Radiology, Endoscopy, Cardiology and A&E departments.
In addition, the department is responsible for running the Critical Care services within the Trust, the maintenance of obstetric and both emergency and trauma anaesthetic services.
Consultants also attend regular ECT sessions, which occur in a purpose built ECT suite at Meadowfield - a psychiatric hospital on the northwest edge of town.

Experience/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Basic medical degree
- Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- CCT in Anaesthesia or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree
- ATLS/ APLS/ ALS
- Masters level degree in clinical education
- Interest in overseas education and training
- Evidence of national level leadership
- MRCP/or equivalent
Clinical Skills And Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in all aspects of Anaesthesia and Acute Pain
- Experience in Anaesthesia for trauma and obstetrics
- An ability to rapidly assess and start to manage patients on the wards which may even avert to ITU admission/Emergency theatre
Knowledge

- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
