Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies
Located on the downtown Orlando campus, Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies opened in 2006, providing programs and services focused on the unique needs of women and newborns. Specialized care covers all facets of women's health, from comprehensive gynecological services and minimally invasive surgeries to obstetrics and high-risk pregnancies and births. The hospital is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care and is certified in perinatal care by The Joint Commission. Welcoming nearly 14,000 babies each year, the hospital’s 350 beds include 142 neonatal intensive care beds, making it one of the largest neonatal intensive care units under one roof in the country. As a sister hospital with Orlando Health Arnold Palmer for Children, the hospital was included in the 2021-22 “Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings by
U.S. News & World Report, recognized for expertise in Neonatology, and, together with Orlando Health ORMC, was included in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.
Women’s GYN Unit
The mission of the Women’s GYN Unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital is to provide a high level of care with an emphasis on clinical excellence and a spirit of service to women with gynecological and obstetrical health care needs. The Women’s GYN unit is a 30-bed inpatient unit which provides skilled nursing care to women of all ages including but not limited to the following: gynecological and oncological medical and surgical admissions, high-risk obstetrical admissions, high-risk postpartum admissions, as well as antepartum patients up to 22 weeks gestation. The unit is equipped with twenty progressive care beds, and we are able to care for those patients requiring PCU status and/or telemetry monitoring. The nursing team collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, social work, case management, physical therapy, dieticians, spiritual care and pharmacists to meet the needs of our patients.

Gradute Nurse. Acute Graduate Nurse administers patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient/observation setting, where acute care patients receive active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post intervention with assessment
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under the supervision of a preceptor, leader, and/or
charge nurse.
- Assesses patients’ needs and develops/revises individualized plans of care based on their needs and responses. Evaluates patients’progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
- Functions as an advocate for patients and their families.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assignedunit/ department.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/ or nurse clinician.
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage theunit/department.
- Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses data reflective of the patient’status, and interprets the necessary information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age- specific needs.
- Coordinates patient care for a defined group and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
- Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, meeting all required and regulatory standards. Thisincludes, but is not limited to, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
- Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and the use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specificrequisite skills.
- Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
- Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
- Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s capabilitiesand qualifications.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
- Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
- Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team membersand/or students.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state,and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Contributes to the knowledge and skills of others, and continuously improves the quality of healthcare practice and organizational
outcomes.
- Participates in and may lead unit level and/or organizational level committees focused on nursing practice and performance
improvement.
- Participates in departmental and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role
performance.
- Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Attends staff development in-services, department meetings, and/or nursing committee meetings.
- Partners with the nursing leadership team to identify professional development needs.
- Assumes responsibility for one’s own professional development and continuing education.
- Actively participates in and attends the Nurse Residency Program as appropriate to role
Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Authorized by the Florida Board of Nursing (BON) to practice as a graduate nurse and has received a “Graduate Nurse” letter.
- Authorized to take the NCLEX by the examination vendor.
- Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
- Must obtain Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license within
three (3) months of placement in this job.
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP is required for the Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU).
