A business office representative should be a professional individual that works as a team player and has good attention to detail.

Essential Functions

The following list of duties for the business office representative are the principal functions of the job and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive list of work requirements. Individuals may be required to perform other duties as assigned, including working in other areas of the office.

● Accurately bill out medical services utilizing proper CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines, as well as following company policies.

● Enter and review payments on patients accounts.

● Research and follow up on any disputed/incorrect reimbursement from health insurances.

● Interact with insurance companies to gather information needed for reimbursement, precertification, benefits, eligibility etc.

● Interact with patients either on the telephone or in person regarding billing inquiries.

● Explain benefits and coverage to patients

● Daily cash balancing

● Collect patient balances

This position needs to work collaboratively with providers and office staff.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma

EMR experience

Medical office coding

The more experienced employee should have medical office experience, billing software experience, i.e. Epic, and an understanding of CPT and ICD coding.
