Job Summary / Role Overview
- Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to female patients across all life stages.
- Manage prenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including high-risk pregnancies.
- Diagnose and treat gynecological conditions (e.g., menstrual disorders, fibroids, endometriosis, infertility).
- Perform gynecological and obstetric surgical procedures (e.g., C-sections, hysterectomies, laparoscopies).
- Provide preventive and educational services (family planning, contraception, menopausal health).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct consultations, examinations, and assessments (outpatient & inpatient).
- Monitor and manage pregnancies: routine antenatal care, ultrasounds, screening for complications.
- Manage labor and delivery: normal birth, assisted birth, cesarean section.
- Provide postnatal care, including follow-up and complication management.
- Diagnose and treat gynecological disorders: infections, hormonal issues, pelvic pain, infertility, etc.
- Perform surgical interventions: gynecological surgeries (laparoscopy, hysterectomy), minimally invasive procedures.
- Conduct preventive health services: Pap smears, cervical screening, family-planning counseling.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records in electronic medical systems.
- Prepare and sign off on clinical notes, surgical reports, discharge summaries.
- Report and document any adverse events, complications, or incident reports as per hospital policy.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to hospital protocols, local / national guidelines, and ethical standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and morbidity & mortality meetings.
- Follow regulatory and legal obligations (e.g., UAE / Dubai health authority standards).
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with pediatrics, neonatology, anesthesiology, nursing staff, and other specialties.
- Refer patients to sub-specialists when needed (maternal-fetal medicine, infertility, oncology).
- Participate in departmental meetings, case discussions, and clinical rounds.
On-Call / Emergency Services
- Provide on-call coverage for obstetric emergencies (e.g., labor, hemorrhage).
- Respond to gynecological emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion).
Professional Development
- Stay updated with the latest medical research, clinical guidelines, and technologies.
- Attend conferences, CME (Continuing Medical Education), and in-house training.
- Mentor junior doctors, residents, or medical students, if applicable.
Patient Education & Counseling
- Educate patients on pregnancy, childbirth, reproductive health, and contraception.
- Provide psychosocial support, especially for high-risk pregnancies or complicated gynecological issues.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MD) from an accredited institution.
- Specialist qualification in Obstetrics & Gynecology (e.g., board certification, diploma).
- Valid medical license in UAE (e.g., Dubai Health Authority / DHA license).
- Relevant clinical experience (varies: typically 3+ years for specialist roles; more for senior/consultant).
- Proven surgical skills in obstetrics and gynecology procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural team.
- Commitment to high standards of patient care and ethical practice.
