Avenue Medical Centre is the largest multispecialty medical centre in Brantford. Support staff provide assistance to physicians in Family Practice, Obstetrics and Gynecology and General Surgery. We are hiring a for a full time position, the candidate will work in the back office with the doctors and nursing staff.
Hours of Work:
- Monday – Thursday 8:30-5:00
- Friday 8:30 to 1:30
- All hours are approximate and can vary slightly week to week.
- And as needed and requested outside of these designated hours.
Qualifications:
- Bondable
- Certified Medical Office Assistant or equivalent experience preferred
- Experience an asset

Job Summary:
- Create EMR for new patients as needed
- Answer phones, and triage needs or requests of patients, other physicians and outside facilities
- Retrieve all phone messages, and reply in a timely manner to all
- Communicate with physicians re patient needs, orally & via email
- Complete any applicable information on forms prior to the physician receiving them (patient demographics, provider information, facility information, etc.)
- Prepare any documents as requested by the physician (chart summaries, billings, notes, requisitions, letters, etc.)
- Do any investigative fact finding prior to addressing the physician about a request or issue (rx renewal, last appt, last time renewed, early release etc.)
- Check and manage “tasks” assigned by physicians, several times daily
- Communicate specified information to patients as requested by physicians, ex, test results, test requests & preparation directions, prescription information, etc.
- Manage booking of special appointments & re-bookings; book referrals, procedures and tests
- Provide all details to patients upon receipt of any referral, test or procedure appointments immediately upon receipt of said information in your office.
- Document all necessary information and communications with patients, in the designated areas of their charts
- Manage mail and faxes to physician and to patient’s charts in paper and digital formats
- Review physicians’ Lab and Hospital Reports in EMR on days they are out of office, sending to cover physician for review as needed
- Call patients to room for nurse to accommodate lunch or as needed during day; start appointment notes, take blood pressure/weight and other info as needed for the appointment
- Review schedules for accurate bookings and time slots
- Process forms
- Process billings, OHIP and 3rd party as needed
- Other duties and projects as assigned
