This position is the face of our Department of Public Safety (DPS) central office reception. The position interacts with many DPS employees of all levels as well as interacts in person and via telephone with the citizens and business partners. In addition, it serves as first point of contact for facility problems.
The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify.
Excellent customer service skills to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to a variety of customers over the phone, in person and through email and other written correspondence.
Data entry skills inputting information quickly, accurately and in a timely manner.
Database management skills to create, retrieve and update databases.
Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Typing/Keyboarding skills to accurately type information into various formats.
Ability to explain policies and procedures in a clear, concise, and professional manner to both internal and external customers.
Math skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile financial data and balance accounts.
One (1) or more years of experience providing professional front desk or receptionist support.
Experience or formal training in customer de-escalation or conflict resolution techniques.
Experience managing visitor access, facility or building security systems, and handling confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
