Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our healthcare team. This role is essential in providing high-quality care to mothers and newborns during the labor and delivery process. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a commitment to patient-centered care, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring mothers, including monitoring vital signs and fetal heart rates.
- Assist with labor management, including pain relief options such as epidurals and IV medications.
- Collaborate with obstetricians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Perform assessments, document patient progress, and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients and families about the labor process, postpartum care, and newborn care.
- Support mothers during delivery by providing emotional support and physical assistance.
- Participate in emergency interventions as needed, including triage for complications.
- Maintain a sterile environment during deliveries and adhere to aseptic techniques.
Experience
Candidates should have a background that includes:
- Experience in an acute care setting, preferably within a Level I or Level II trauma center.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Critical care experience or experience in emergency medicine is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to obstetrics.
- Proficiency in IV insertion, medication administration, phlebotomy, and basic life support (BLS).
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.
- Previous exposure to specialties such as hospice & palliative medicine, pain management, or maternal-fetal medicine will be advantageous.
