Job Purpose
To provide reproductive health care nursing to individuals undergoing fertility treatment, promoting health and decreasing risk factors that contributes to infertility. To provide safe, exemplary patient care in all aspects of the care administered in the admitting and discharge area of CReATe, in the procedure rooms and where indicated with cycle monitoring. The RPN practices as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. The RPN collaborates closely with the RN providing care to patients whose condition is stable and outcomes are predictable. The RPN reports deviations from normal to the RN and or physician for assessment and input to decision making regarding the care of the client. The RPN maintains competency through education and research and practices in accordance with the code of ethics of the CNO, RPNAO and the CFAS. All care is provided according to each patient’s cultural and spiritual needs. The RPN must be willing to expand the role as the clinic adds additional procedures and treatments for patient care, under a supervised safe and competent manner.
Duties and Responsibilities Include
· Act as scrub and recovery room nurse in the procedure room and may perform circulating nurse duties EXCEPT for the administration of IV sedation medication(s)
· Safe administration of medications within scope of practice
· Starting, monitoring and discontinuation of IV
· Reprocessing of medical devices – infection control practices (In Emergency)
· Maintenance of equipment for sterilization, patient monitoring, aspiration pump and vacuum pump
· Procedure scheduling and generation of Daily Procedure list
· Communication with multidisciplinary team members for the efficient and safe operation of the procedure rooms including scheduling of cases
· Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide optimum patient care. To communicate with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, business office, administrative staff, ultra-sonographers, laboratory technicians, embryologists, complementary medicine practices, interdepartmental units at WCH and Sunnybrook to facilitate patient care.
· Monitoring of vital signs, blood sugar levels
· Management of specimens
· Ensure the rights, confidentiality and privacy of the patient are protected at all times
· Provide patients with advice and support as necessary, throughout their treatment
· Practice evidence-based nursing, applying accepted and validated research
· Practice in accordance with the code of ethics and standards as set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, the CFAS and CReATe Fertility Centre
· Communicate and liaise with medical staff from Satellite units for booking procedures
· Ensure patient’s safety and well-being at all times
· Provide emotional support in an unbiased manner
· Health teaching
· Assist Administrative Assistant in sanitizing OR cubicles after every patient use as needed.
· Exercise tact and compassion in dealings with patients and relatives in accordance with patient’s
cultural and spiritual needs
· Ensure that the correct control, storage and administration of drugs and medicines (not IV medications) is undertaken in accordance with CReATe Fertility Centre’s policies
· Ensure accurate and safe reconciliation of supplies including stock medication
· Ensure that all records are kept in a clear, accurate and legible manner, and that all entries are signed and dated.
· Participate in training as required including fire safety, WHMIS, infection control, hand hygiene and emergency response & disaster planning
· Maintain competency through education and research
· Take an active role in department policies, processes and procedures by monitoring and maintaining standards of care in conjunction with other team members
· Maintain the Quality System as it pertains to the processes performed in the O.R.
· Adhere to the terms and conditions of employment as stated in the Employee Handbook
· Attend and participate in staff meetings as required
· Active role in monitoring and improving patient safety as it applies to my duties and responsibilities
Qualifications·
· Current CNO registration
· Current RPNAO registration
· Current BCLS
· Advanced practice nursing skills –preferred experience in gynecology, operating room, obstetrics, counseling, adult education experience,IV/venipuncture course
· Preferred- member of CFAS
· Preferred member of CFAS nursing special interest group
Working Conditions
· Full time 40+ hours per week with flexible start and end times depending on patient acuity and nursing staff preference
· Potential for 10 – 12 hr days depending on patient scheduling.
· Rotating weekends and holidays
· Vacation planning is done to ensure clinic coverage.
· Willingness to maintain competency by attending courses and seminars as recommended by the Director of Nursing
Physical Requirements
· Physically able to stand for long periods of time, bending, lifting and transferring patients who have received conscious sedation.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $32.00-$35.00 per hour
