ABOUT US
At Blume Maternity Care, our collaborative team provides high-quality, evidence-based maternity care services grounded in the midwifery model of practice throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
We are a brand-new maternity clinic located in Surrey, BC having just opened in July of 2025. At this time, our team is focused on offering postpartum-only care for families living in Surrey, BC and nearby communities. We provide personalized postpartum care for patients and newborns during the first 6 weeks after birth — checking in on physical recovery, supporting infant feeding (whether breast, chest, or bottle feeding), guiding families through newborn care, and answering any questions along the way.
We are a fun, supportive, and collaborative team, and we would love for you to join us in building a clinic that truly supports the growing families in Surrey!
Position Overview
We are seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) with a passion for postpartum and newborn care to join our growing team. This role includes a combination of home visits and/or clinic appointments, where you will always be supported by one of our Registered Midwives (RMs).
Scheduling & Flexibility
We understand that many Registered Nurses (RNs) hold positions within the hospital system. At Blume, we offer flexible scheduling so you can:
- Pick up as many or as few shifts as you would like.
- Work around your hospital or other nursing shifts — this role is designed to fit alongside existing work commitments.
- Build a schedule that works for you while still providing continuity of care for families.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive compensation per home visit and clinic shift.
- Please note: this position does not include extended health insurance or pension benefits, unlike hospital RN positions.
- Ideal for RNs seeking flexible, supplemental income or experience in community-based postpartum and newborn care.
Parent Care
- Provide in-home check-ins during the first week after hospital discharge.
- Perform full physical health assessments including: vital signs & blood pressure monitoring, postpartum bleeding and uterine involution, and assessment of stitches, tears, or incision checks.
- Monitor emotional and mental health, screen for postpartum depression/anxiety, and provide referrals if needed.
- Offer counseling on recovery, self-care, newborn care, pain management, and resuming daily activities after childbirth.
- Offer strategies for breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, and formula feeding.
- Connect families with resources such as pelvic floor physiotherapists, OBGYNs, and mental health providers
Newborn Care
- Conduct comprehensive head-to-toe newborn examinations including: weight, length, and head circumference checks, heart and lung assessment, monitoring for jaundice and hydration status.
- Monitor weight gain and provide follow-up plans for slow or excessive weight change.
- Provide education on newborn care topics such as: feeding cues, bathing, umbilical cord care, immunizations, and safe sleep practices.
Requirements
- Current registration and good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Previous experience in postpartum, maternity, pediatrics, or community health nursing (strongly preferred).
- Strong skills in newborn assessment and breastfeeding support.
- Compassionate, culturally safe, and patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interprofessional team.
- A valid BC driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for home visits.
