Under the direction of the Cytology Supervisor, the Cytology Assistant oversees the distribution of cytology cases to laboratory Cytotechnologists and Pathologists for diagnosis. They also assist with filing, slide retrieval, and daily workload tally for pathologist.
- Oversee the distribution of cytology cases and appropriate paperwork to cytotechnologist and laboratory pathologists for diagnosis.

Periodically collect slides from primary screeners for distribution to the pathologist and the QC tech for review.

Retrieve previous slides for 5-year retrospective review or general review.

Scan slides to verify completion of case prior to filing.

Redistribute incomplete cases that have been filed in error to the assigned cytotechnologist or pathologist for review and completion.

File slides according to the established laboratory protocols.

Maintain and provide a daily workload tally for cytology cases assigned to the laboratory pathologists.

Organize and file 5-year retrospective review worksheets.

Understand and follow all company policy and procedures including those relating to safety and quality assurance.

Represent the laboratory in a professional manner. Treats fellow staff in a courteous and cooperative manner. Acts as a positive role model to all laboratory coworkers.

Compliance with all HIPAA rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalency required.
-
1-3 years pertinent laboratory experience required.

Ability to use a computer and enter data efficiently, including Microsoft office programs.

Knowledge of Orchard laboratory information system preferred.

Knowledge of eClinical Works EMR preferred.

Proficient in data entry and record keeping.

Great attention to detail.

Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, reliable, accountable, and conscientious.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must possess the ability to interact and communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of internal personnel, providers, personnel of outside organizations, and patients and their family members.
- Must possess good organizational skills, handle multiple tasks concurrently, and be able to work effectively with all levels of aforementioned groups.
