Salary: $ 49.57 per hour to $ 61.96 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy), 37.5 hours/week

The Physician Assistant (PA) will be based on-site at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and function within the RMP and provide patient care in a team setting, primarily in ambulatory clinics during weekday daytime clinical hours. Under the guidance and supervision of staff radiation oncologists, the PA will provide patient assessments, investigations, symptom management, and follow up care for select high volume services within the Radiation Oncology department, for both newly diagnosed oncology patients, and those undergoing a course of radiation treatment. The PA will join tumour site-based teams with focus in the genitourinary and gynecologic disease sites (and other tumour diseases, depending on clinical volumes), with focus on improving and enhancing the access to care, the quality of care, and radiation therapy related symptom management for patients undergoing radiation treatment. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and also at an ongoing basis. This role is to cover an existing member of the department who is going on a parental leave.
Principal responsibilities include utilizing and demonstrating a theoretical knowledge and advanced level of clinical competence and excellence in caring for Radiation Oncology patients. This involves collecting and interpreting data about the health of patients, symptom management, developing a medical diagnosis and management plan – in a team environment, under the supervision and guidance of a staff radiation oncologist. The PA will interpret patient findings, radiology studies and use this knowledge to deliver high-quality care for oncology patients. The PA will receive training on cross-sectional anatomy, pelvic exams, and be introduced to radiation treatment planning. The PA will play a vital role on the interprofessional team and will have opportunity to participate in quality improvement, research and administrative responsibilities. The PA will interact with other team members including a team of staff radiation oncologists, other PAs, medical trainees (residents and fellows), nurses, radiation technologists, physicists, and other clinical and allied health staff both within RMP and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The PA will perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) is an academic, publicly-funded clinical service unit within Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) serving the radiation oncology needs of the Toronto central area. RMP is also a tertiary referral resource for the Greater Toronto Area and the province, serving Ontarians for specialized programs and services such as pediatric radiation oncology, sarcoma, head and neck cancer, ocular oncology, radiosurgery, and stem cell transplants (total body irradiation).
The program is currently staffed by 37 radiation oncologists and 4 PAs, providing approximately 9,000 new patient consultations annually. There are state of the art imaging and radiation treatment equipment including CT/PET and MR simulators, 16 linear accelerators, two radiosurgery units, brachytherapy, stereotactic approaches, theranostics, and MR-guided therapeutics. The program is organized according to tumour site groups, with the larger oncology sites being Breast, Genitourinary, Lung, Gastrointestinal, Hematological, Head and Neck, Central Nervous System, and Gynecology. There are daily ambulatory clinics, and there is an onsite 20 bed inpatient unit, and hospitalists dedicated to inpatient care. Emergency department support is located at Toronto General, Toronto Western and Mount Sinai Hospitals.
SALARY RANGE: The starting salary will be set commensurate with experience, as per UHN policies. There is also available funding for CME/conferences/education/courses.
Qualifications
At minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in an accredited Physician Assistant program or recognized equivalent- Must be a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and/or a American Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Must be a current member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
- Maintain certification and CCPA/PA-C designation by completing the required CPD/CME credits
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
- Exercise initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
