The Surgical Coordinator acts as a liaison between the patient, surgical team, and other appropriate parties. Key Responsibilities of a Surgical Coordinator:
Scheduling:
Scheduling procedures, including selecting appropriate dates, times, while considering availability and patient needs.
Coordination:
Coordinating with the team to ensure all necessary resources are available.
Patient Communication:
Communicating with patients regarding pre-operative instructions, appointment details, and any necessary information related to their surgery.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate patient records, including medical history, consent forms, insurance information, and other relevant documentation.
Insurance Verification:
Verifying patient insurance coverage and obtaining necessary pre-authorizations for surgical procedures, as needed.
Pre-operative Planning:
Ensuring patients complete all necessary pre-operative requirements, such as medical clearances, lab tests, and other required assessments.
Post-operative Coordination:
Scheduling follow-up appointments and coordinating any necessary post-operative care instructions.
Inventory Management:
Manages surgical supplies and equipment.
