The Financial Counselor works with patients to help them better understand the financial aspects of their fertility services, including insurance coverage, copayments, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. The Financial Counselor provides detailed information about the costs associated with fertility procedures, tests and treatments and assists patients in understanding insurance coverage limitations and their own financial responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provides financial counseling for all prospective and current patients by explaining fees and available financial plans, assisting with applications, setting up payment plans, processing payments and serving as a liaison between patients and insurance carriers. Proactively identifies and resolves barriers to patient retention as it relates to financial issues.
- Assists patients in preparing insurance forms, reviews patient benefit information and helps obtain benefits authorization/pre-determination.
- Collaborates with billing and accounting departments to ensure accurate and timely submission of insurance claims. Addresses and resolves any billing discrepancies or issues.
- Follow all federal, state and payer specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and billing practices to ensure all work is compliant with established guidelines.
- Maintains/audits records of patient transactions and analyzes trends and statistics for patient retention as it relates to financial issues.
- May be required to meet in person with patients or travel occasionally to clinics within the network for training and relationship building.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 1-2 years’ work experience in similar or related position or other office environment.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a health care related field preferred.
- 1-2 years’ experience in financial counseling preferred.
