Role Overview – Obstetrics Registered Nurse
As a Labour and Delivery RN, you will provide care to patients during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery in a hospital setting. You’ll work closely with obstetricians, neonatal teams, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe and compassionate maternity care.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being during labour and delivery
- Administer medications and manage epidurals or other pain relief
- Provide postpartum education and support
- Support patients emotionally through each stage of childbirth
- Respond to emergencies such as fetal distress or complications
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses
Qualifications
- Current RN license in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Labour & Delivery or Obstetrics
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification – required
- Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour (FHSL) – required
- Completion of a Breastfeeding course or equivalent experience
- Perinatal/Obstetrics nursing certificate – required
- ACORN (Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns) – preferred
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred
