Job Title:

Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse

Department:

Nursing

Reports To:

Administrator, Charge Nurse, and Physicians

General Purpose of Job:

To assist the physician in caring for our patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

· Work up patients (vital signs, pregnancy tests, U/A’s, forms, etc.)

· Assist physician with procedures

· Alert physicians to patient problems/abnormal lab results, etc.

· Call/contact patients regarding abnormal lab results and follow-up

· Work “Orders Tracking” in Primesuite and keep up to date

· Take triage calls when scheduled

· Assist other nurses or physicians when needed

· Council, advise and support patients

· Provide patient education

· Perform fetal monitoring

· Give injections

· Perform NST’s

· Return phone calls for physician

· Fax test results and other information to hospital, consulting M.D.

· Call in prescriptions to pharmacies

· Set appointments/schedule procedures and surgeries

· Refer patients to other physicians (call insurance company w/clinical information and schedule the appointment for patient)

· Manage infertility patients (IUI’s, drugs, ultrasounds, injections, etc)

· Communicate between physician and others (employees, hospital staff, other physician offices, etc.)

· Complete disability forms, WIC applications, etc for patients

· Handle insurance problems regarding wrong diagnosis codes, etc.

· Restock nurse’s station/notify supply manager when running low on supplies

· Coordinate with drug representatives, learn about new drugs and their uses

· Instruct student nurses/new employees

· Organize physician office/waiting area/drug closet/nurse station

**Many items will appear on both the RN/LPN and the MA/CNA lists. Each team, which consists of the physician, nurse and assistant, must determine how to divide duties to achieve the best continuity of care for our patients. Each employee should be prepared to “fill in” when needed in other areas, whether inside or outside their usual workstation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

RN/LPN certified or getting certification; necessary annual CEU’s completed

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as test results, procedure manuals, procedural instructions and safety manuals. Ability to communicate with patients effectively regarding test results and treatments.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to draw correct dosages for injections.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to interpret test results. Ability to make quick decisions when faced with threatening medical conditions and patients in distress (physically, mentally or emotionally).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Appropriate AL State Licensure

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and sit. Ability to reach with hands and arms. Ability to physically assist patients onto and off of examining tables if necessary.

Work Environment:

Extremely busy physician schedules. Patient care within time constraints. Possibility of facing life and death situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.88 - $31.17 per hour
