Position Summary:
- Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team to ensure high quality care
- Care of the mother and newborn throughout their postpartum stay
- Teaching/assisting mother and newborn with breastfeeding
- Responsible for the provision of nursing care, teaching and coaching to patients and their families
- Responsible and accountable for the provision of nursing care in accordance with the standards of nursing practice and THP Best Practice Protocols with postpartum clients and their families
- Establishing priorities and making ethically sound decisions to ensure safe patient centred care
- Documentation of patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of care
- Collaboration with other health care professionals.
- Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient’s health status.
Key Qualifications:
- A current annual certificate of competency with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Able to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO
- Current NRP and CPR certificates required
- Medication Certificate and experience with administration of medication within the last year required
- Completed or willingness to complete the obstetrical and breastfeeding certificate from a recognized community college
- Current postpartum experience required with good understanding of breastfeeding and infant cues
- Experienced in assessment of the newborn and transitional care required
- Current experience with managing post-operative mothers and babies required
- Experience with patient/family centred and/or partnership care models
- Must have effective interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem solving skills
- Reliable and flexible individual who is willing to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment
- A positive attendance and work record is essential
