Key Responsabilities
Each individual performs only those high-complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director or general supervisor and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
Each Individual Performing High-complexity Testing Must
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for test analyses, reviewing and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or the reporting of test results, and must either correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor or laboratory director.
- Document all non-conformities and corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Communicate professionally with clients when providing and retrieving necessary information required for testing. Offer guidance and assistance with the tests offered, test ordering, and pre- and post-analytical steps.
- Witness the analytical and post-analytical procedures (when required/needed) and ensure proper documentation (such as reports) is in place.
- Be capable of working on weekends and night shifts depending on the workload and specific circumstances.
- Be organized and responsible to ensure all laboratory testing is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
- Keep records and perform quality control.
- Participate in the validation of new tests or test upgrades.
- Conduct molecular analysis techniques and interpret results using different platforms.
Education Background
- The diagnostic personnel must possess a current license issued by the country/state in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
- Have earned a doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; and
- Have education and training equivalent to that specified above by having at least 3 months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high-complexity testing.
- Specific experience in carrier genetic test performance and reporting will be valued.
- Experience in variant curation will be valued.
- Experience in bioinformatic analysis will be valued.
