RPN - Fertility Job Description
Reports to: Nurse Manager
TRIO is a private fertility clinic located in downtown Toronto, who has cared for thousands of patients over the last 25 years! TRIO has a team of world renowned physicians with a mindset for innovation and research. With our recent expansion, TRIO now can provide patients with more resources, including access to a greater number of physicians, nursing staff, a large clinic with many additional satellite locations to better service our patients.
TRIO has a strong focus for personalized programs and services, with a dedication to helping patients with their fertility goals. We are looking for a Fertility Registered Practical Nurse to join our Nursing Team.
Basic Functions:
- Act independently as a registered practical nurse at an infertility centre.
- Perform patient assessments and arrange and coordinates all aspects of patient treatment following doctor’s orders
- Act as liaison between patient and doctor; answer patient calls and queries as instructed by RN. required.
- Maintain best practices as outline with PIDAC-IPC
- or be prepared to train as required
- Rotate through assigned positions in recovery room, operating room.
- Participate in educational training and research activities.
- Perform other related duties including but not limited to: initiation and implementation of intravenous and intravenous medication. monitoring of vital signs, pre and post operative patient care and emergency assistance, if required.
- Dispense and chart administration of medication as ordered by physicians.
- Maintain patient’s confidentiality.
- Adheres completely to TRIO privacy issues and policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Physical Demands
Minimum qualifications;
- Minimum Registered Practical Nurse Diploma with proof of yearly registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Yearly membership with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
- ACLS certification.
- WHIMIS certification.
- Physical demands include standing for extended periods of time in the Operating/Recovery Room and to assist (stand) during ultrasound assessment of patients.
- Ability to assist sedated patients on and off stretchers as required
Experience
Minimum two years’ experience as a Registered Practical Nurse in an Obstetrics and Gynecology setting.
Experience in Assisted Reproduction, preferred.

- Computer skills (word, excel, patient scheduling) required to support data base.
Duties
- Work independently.
- Act as patient advocate.
- Assess and coordinate patient care with physician’s orders.
- Ensure patient confidentiality according to TRIO Policy.
- Adheres to general policies and procedures of TRIO.
- Open patient chart and create stimulation record
- Responsible for completion of patient records and ensuring that all documentation is in patient chart including current screening blood work, record of all telephone conversations.
- Notify the laboratory of all booked procedures.
- Ensure all required consent forms are signed and in the patient chart.
- Ensure patient is aware of all aspects of the treatment cycle.
- Must be able to rotate through all aspects of the nursing responsibilities at TRIO including working knowledge of oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer in the operating room.
- Must be efficient in cleaning and sterilization process in the operating room.
- Recovery room duties include; starting of intravenous lines, preparing and administering intravenous medication.
- Clinical assessment of patient status following recovery room policy.
- Ability to monitor and to assist patients under sedation from stretcher to operating room and to washroom facilities.
- Sign off on monthly check-lists
- Stocking of supplies and ensuring the stockroom in order
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment (OR / Recovery / Nursing Station)
- Exam rooms MUST be priority for immediate turnaround after a patient
- Assist physician when required with, but not limited to the following procedures: IUI, sono hysterogram, PAP smear, endometrial biopsy and general physical examination
- Escort male patients with requisition to sperm collection room
- Review requisition to ensure proper labeling and witness patient signature.
- Review instructions prior to patient producing specimen.
- Instruct patient as to where to place specimen once obtained.
- Review results of semen analysis with patient.
- Receives sperm specimens produced off site and utilizes appropriate consent form.
- Work scheduled rotation as determined by Nurse Manager including “on call” weekend rotation. Participate in educational and research activities.
- Perform other related duties.
- Assumes responsibility for the results reported by other employees at TRIO
- Report to the Nurse Manager any significant occurrence or deviation.
- Maintains cleanliness of assigned work areas per section’s standards.
- May perform various computer functions.
- Order medication and surgical supplies as required.
- Reports any adverse events, to superior and others as appropriate

Pay: $30.00-$33.00 per hour
