Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Lagos for a Fertility Counselor. The Fertility Counselor will support patients by providing emotional and psychological guidance throughout their fertility treatment journey. Daily tasks include conducting individual and group counseling sessions, assessing and addressing clients' emotional needs, and developing personalized support plans. The counselor will collaborate with medical staff and participate in client education and training programs to ensure comprehensive support.
Key Responsibilities
Providing Emotional and Psychological Support
- Counseling clients: Provide individual or couple counseling to help patients cope with the emotional stress of infertility and fertility treatments, such as IVF (in vitro fertilization), IUI (intrauterine insemination), or surrogacy.
- Supporting Coping Mechanisms: Help clients develop coping strategies to manage feelings of anxiety, depression, grief, or frustration during the fertility journey.
- Addressing Relationship Concerns: Work with both partners in a relationship to address emotional or interpersonal challenges that may arise as a result of infertility.
Providing Information and Guidance
- Informing About Fertility Options:
- Discussing Treatment Expectations.
- Assisting in Understanding Medical Processes
Managing Mental Health Challenges, assessment and support during/after treatment failure.
- Supporting Patient and Family Dynamics (Family Counseling/ Incorporating Cultural Sensitivity)
Maintaining Patient Records and Documentation
Providing Post-Treatment Support, Handling Pregnancy Loss and Ongoing Support for Pregnancy Success.
Providing Fertility Education, Staying Updated on Fertility Research and advocating for patients' emotional and psychological needs .
Qualifications
- Strong background in Counseling or Psychology, preferably with a focus on fertility or family planning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively support patients and collaborate with medical staff
- Experience conducting individual and group therapy sessions
- Skills in emotional and psychological assessment and developing personalized support plans
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload in an on-site clinical setting
- Relevant certifications or licensure in counseling or psychology
- Understanding of fertility treatments and processes is a plus
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
