We offer Clinical Extern opportunities within Women’s and Infants’ Health (Mother Baby and Antenatal Unit or Labour and Delivery), Surgical and Oncology (PACU, Ortho/Sarcoma, Inflammatory Bowel/Surgical, Surgical Oncology or Orthopaedics, ENT, Oral Surgery, Opthalmology), and Urgent and Critical Care (Emergency, Psychiatry, General Medicine and Cardiology, and Intensive Care). You'll witness diverse patient populations, observe specialized procedures, and gain a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and rewards each area offers. In This Role You Will
- Assist with patient mobilization
- Aid patients with activities of daily living (ADL)
- Participate in hourly patient rounds
- Respond to patient call bells
- Perform basic patient assessments
- Provide constant observation of designated patients (e.g. Falls Risk)
- Conduct administrative activities to support unit function
- Ensure patient oxygen therapy is maintained, assisting with the set-up of basic oxygen and suction equipment as required
- Measure and reports patient weight and fluid intake and output
- Perform basic wound care and dressing changes
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Current enrollment in an approved Ontario Baccalaureate Degree Nursing program
- Successful completion of 2nd year for a 4 year program or 1st year of a 2 year program
- Ability to provide a letter confirming good academic standing
- Evidence of successful learning experiences in recent clinical placements

Note : Clinical Externs are expected to work a minimum of one shift per week up to a maximum of full-time hours. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on unit needs and may include day/evening/night and weekend shifts.
