Sinai Health is looking for an experienced Nurse Practitioner to support our Mature Women's Health program at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.
The Nurse Practitioner utilizes and demonstrates a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for mature women’s health issues. This may involve triaging patients in collaboration with fellows and attending staff; taking a comprehensive general health history; ordering, interpreting and evaluate diagnostic investigations and laboratory tests and results; prescribing oral contraceptives; consulting with patients for hormone treatments; performing routine gynecological examinations; determining a treatment plan in consultation with the physician, the health care team and with the family and evaluating the outcomes of the plan and interventions taken.
The successful incumbent will develop, implement and evaluate initiatives that improve patient care quality in the in accordance with the principles of patient and family integrated care, the strategic goals of the program, and the goals of the organization as a whole. This includes a leadership role in quality assurance, infection control, patient safety and patient satisfaction, as well as administrative duties within the Mature Women’s Health Program and the Hospital.
In This Role You Will
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the establishment of goals and objectives for the program consistent with the provision of high-quality care
- Participate in the programmatic development of the clinical area and participates and provides leadership in Nursing practice, program development and evaluation
- Aid in the development and maintenance of standards of clinical practice through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, excellence in clinical practice and implementation and utilization of research
- Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing and with the Medical leads of the Mature Women’s Health Unit
- Develop partnerships within MSH and within the community at large, including identification of community resources, multi-cultural services, and adult services to enhance continuity of care for clients
- Perform and participate in research activities within the Mature Women’s Health Unit inclusive of an opportunity to focus on research within the menopause unit with the goal of implementing and advancing changes in evidence-based practice
- Deliver, coordinate and participate in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients
- Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of advanced nursing students
- Act as a resource and serves as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Completion of a Master’s Degree program in nursing and a Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent
- Current registration (Extended Class) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution\
Preferred
- Membership in RNAO and other organizations relevant to the role
- Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher and administration/leadership, is an asset
- Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and post-graduate nursing students, as well as clinical fellows
Skills and Knowledge
- Proven expertise in the implementation of the Nurse Practitioner role strongly recommended
- Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
- Excellent organization, time management, program planning and evaluation skills
- Demonstrated decision making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to utilize information technology
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
