Sinai Health is looking for an experienced Nurse Clinician for our Labour and Delivery department.
As an integral member of the Nursing Professional Practice and Education Team, the Nurse Clinician is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the education programs for Registered Nurses in Labour and Delivery. The Nurse Clinician coordinates and delivers orientation and educational programs for nursing students and staff, as well as influences quality patient care through education, promotes teamwork, and enhances staff development. The Nurse Clinician uses adult teaching learning theory to facilitate the evaluation of education needs of the nursing staff and in developing and teaching educational programs. The Nurse Clinician supports nursing educational initiatives in alignment with departmental and Mount Sinai goals and objectives, and supports nursing practice issues and policy/procedure development as needed.
About This Team
The Labour and Delivery Unit is a tertiary level care centre in Toronto. We deliver approximately 6,500 patients and their families each year. Our patients are antenatal and perinatal. We provide both low and high risk obstetrical care. Our space is comprised of 19 birthing suites, 7 Triage beds, 5 Operating Rooms and 5 ODU beds within an Observation Day Unit (ODU)
In This Role You Will
- Develop and maintain standards of nursing practice and management of patient care through the creation of an environment conducive to development of staff and excellence in nursing practice
- Foster the philosophy, goals, and standards of the Department of Nursing
- Collaborate in the establishment of goals and objectives for Labour and Delivery with the provision of high quality, safe care. Participate in the program development of in-patient and ambulatory clinical areas
- Provide leadership in promoting and maintaining a positive work environment
- Maintain competence in all areas of practice; clearly articulate and define own practice and link to research outcomes
- Promote high quality and innovative nursing education using a multitude of modalities, including simulation, on-line, clinical, and classroom environments.
- Evaluate nursing clinical practice and competencies, identify learning needs, and support the development of personal learning plans
- Use best practices, knowledge translation, and program planning principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing education initiatives
- Participate in quality improvement activities including development, implementation, and evaluation of utilization/application of standards, policies, and procedures
- Participate in the development of evaluation strategies to monitor applicable nurse sensitive indicators and practice changes
- Encourage and support continuous learning and professional development
- Participate in teaching of nursing department education initiatives
- Participate in relevant unit and nursing department committees
- Contribute to the development of the nursing profession through active involvement and affiliation with other nursing service organizations, professional associations, and the community at large
- Assist with staff performance appraisals and performance development/goal setting and provide prompt feedback to RNs when indicated
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements
Mandatory
- Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Graduate of a CNO-approved bachelor’s degree in nursing program, or equivalent combined education and experience
- Minimum 5 years of recent experience in women's health and/or perinatal nursing
- Applicants with related training and experience may be considered
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
- Fetal Health Surveillance certificate
Preferred
- Masters of Nursing
- Clinical experience in high risk obstetrical nursing
- NRP instructor-level certification
- Fetal Health Surveillance instructor-level certification
- Certification in Perinatal Nursing an asset
- Membership of RNAO and other professional nursing-related organizations
