About the Opportunities
YFS is looking for two full-time Housing Specialists based in Slacks Creek, QLD (working with young people) or Jimboomba, QLD (working with families).
Reporting to the relevant Program Manager, these roles are responsible for supporting families and youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by building their capacity towards housing solutions and strengthening stability.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting families and youth to navigate the housing system and achieve long-term housing goals
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver holistic support
- Building relationships with real estate agents, Centrelink, the Department of Housing, and community housing providers to secure housing for clients
- Assisting clients in maintaining stable tenancies through tailored support strategies
- Enhancing the capacity of family and youth workers to address housing challenges
- Applying trauma-informed practices to support individuals facing housing insecurity
- Prioritising urgent client needs while balancing long-term housing solutions
- Engaging with First Nations communities to provide culturally appropriate housing support
- Identifying and implementing innovative service integration approaches
- Maintaining accurate records and case notes to track client progress and housing outcomes
- Advocating for clients' housing needs within the broader community services sector
About You
To qualify, you will need a relevant tertiary qualification (Degree in a related discipline) or demonstrated experience at a SCHADS AWARD 5 Level. Previous experience working with individuals or families in housing crisis, homelessness services, or tenancy support will also be essential, as will experience from within a culturally diverse environment.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Knowledge of housing legislation, sector trends, and homelessness-related challenges
- Experience working with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with service consumers, community organizations, and government bodies
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive workplace culture
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records, documentation, and case management systems
