Position Focus
Under the direction of the Principal Investigators and laboratory manager, the Research Associate will support a new Immunobiology laboratory. Duties and tasks are complex in nature where considerable judgment, independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Research support includes participation in the planning, data collection and data analysis for multiple multifaceted research projects.
Principal Responsibilities: Coordinates the receipt, processing, quality assurance, cryopreservation, recovery, and inventory of human fetal tissue samples and cell populations. Coordinates laboratory bench assignments and complex maintenance of breeding of gnotobiotic mice and mutant mice to include intercrossing of complex genotypes involving multiple genes and/or alleles. Analyzes and evaluates research data and ensures compliance with protocol and overall laboratory objectives. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and publish. Participates in regularly scheduled research in progress meetings. Interacts with internal contacts including the research associates, post doctorial fellows graduate students, and visiting scholars. Interacts with external contacts such as external collaborators at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. Prepares and amends standard operating procedure specific to the position.
Essential Duties
- Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning 3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly. 4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports. 5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning. 6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. 7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1
Demonstrated experience with Bench techniques or animal science. Strong writing and research skills. Demonstrated Scientific Background via education or work experience.
Required Skill/Ability 2
Strong computer skills, preferably on the Mac platform, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and graphics programs such as PowerPoint and Photoshop.
Required Skill/Ability 3
Ability to manage a variety of responsibilities at once. Ability to remain flexible and handle a variety of changing priorities.
