Job Opportunity: HIV Health Educator

Position Title: HIV Prevention Specialist

Reports to: Director of HIV Programs

Work Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (with occasional evenings and weekends)

We're on a mission to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to our diverse community. We're currently seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our HIV Department as a Health Educator. This role offers a chance to contribute creatively to a dynamic organization, working towards a healthier future.

Role Overview: As a Health Educator in our HIV Department, you'll play a vital role in promoting sexual health and preventing HIV transmission. Through education, outreach, testing, and connecting individuals to care, you'll empower our community to take charge of their well-being.

Responsibilities

Lead informative workshops on HIV-related subjects across various community settings.
Distribute HIV prevention resources and provide condoms to individuals and groups.
Administer HIV tests using fingerstick blood collection.
Conduct personalized health education and counseling sessions with high-risk individuals.
Execute targeted outreach both on the streets of central Brooklyn, at venues, and online.
Engage the target demographic in discussions about prevention topics (HIV testing, PrEP/PEP, condom usage, etc.).
Innovate and facilitate a support group tailored to women living with HIV/AIDS.
Keep community education materials up to date.
Thoroughly document all activities as per protocol.
Regularly submit comprehensive activity reports.
Actively participate in meetings, training, and professional development initiatives.
Undertake additional assignments delegated by the Program Director.

Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to HIV prevention and advancing health outcomes.
Comfort with street outreach and discussing sexual health and harm reduction.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Flexibility to work non-traditional hours as needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.
Familiarity with AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS) is highly advantageous.
Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social services, or related public health field is a plus.
Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole is beneficial.
Knowledge of central Brooklyn neighborhoods is a positive attribute.
