We are seeking a locum Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from February - June 2026 to support our team of eleven consultants at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern.
Our department supports a maternity unit with an antenatal and postnatal area with approximately 20 beds, operating theatre, and antenatal and outpatient obstetric clinics. Dunedin Hospital has a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated Women's Health Unit.
The service is supported by a team of experienced midwives, obstetrics, gynaecology, and colposcopy nurses.
The successful applicant will be expected to provide consultant led antenatal, gynaecology and colposcopy clinic services as well as working in:
- maternity
- surgical wards
- operating theatre
- early pregnancy clinic
- the emergency department.
There will also be a requirement to provide outlying clinics and support of rural maternity units.
On-call duties include:
- responsibility for labour and birthing
- acute antenatal and gynaecological assessments and admissions
- responsibility of all inpatient acute or from elective surgery after hours.
As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for us, you will have a personal commitment to providing an effective and efficient inpatient and outpatient service and an unequivocal dedication to working as part of a tight knit team.
About you
You will:
- require prior experience as a consultant, fellow or senior registrar
- be accredited by RANZCOG
- hold registration (or be eligible for registration) as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- need to be certified to provide colposcopy services.
