A full-time Locum Consultant in General Urology is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Wycombe General Hospital with elective and emergency commitments at High Wycombe General Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. There will also be a regular out-patient clinic at one of the BHT sites. There will be an allocated weekly theatre list at Wycombe Hospital, although this will not be a fixed day of the week.
The work will comprise a mixture of minor/intermediate general urology. Sub-specialist interests may be able to be accommodated should it complement the interests and needs of the department.
The successful applicant will join the current team of consultants in a 1:7 on call rota with a fully staffed middle grade rota (24 hour cover). Elective activity is cancelled during the on call week so that attendance at more than one site is not expected. The on-call commitment will require regular travel to the Stoke Mandeville Site. The Trust pays travel expenses to cover travel to sites other than the principal site of work.
This is a fixed term temporary Locum Consultant post for 12 months.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register. It is Trust policy that without CCT, an offer as Locum Consultant can be given for a 6 months fixed term contract, with possibility of it being extended for a further 6 months, but cannot go over 12 months in total.
The Urology unit at Buckinghamshire provides comprehensive general and specialist urology care for over half a million residents. The region is rapidly growing, driven by an active housebuilding programme in the Aylesbury area. This post offers a blend of minor and intermediate general urology cases.
The Trust is a leading regional provider of surgical treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), offering advanced techniques including bipolar TURP, Urolift, HoLEP, prostate artery embolization (PAE), and green light laser prostatectomy. Additional services include laparoscopic upper tract surgery and specialist stone surgery. A joint business case with colorectal and gynaecology colleagues for acquiring a Da Vinci Xi surgical robot has been successfully submitted.
Our unit transitioned to a local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy service, performed by both doctors and advanced nurse practitioners, and plans are underway to establish a community-based diagnostic centre in Amersham. The National Spinal Injuries Centre, renowned globally for spinal injury management, is located at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Urology input here is provided through a reconstructive urology service jointly based at Oxford and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals.
