The NHS Long Term Plan outlines a commitment to improve access to Perinatal Pelvic Health Services (PPHS) and ensure that all women have access to multidisciplinary pelvic health clinics and pathways across England. PPHS are to lead local delivery of the ambition to improve prevention, early identification and access to treatment of ‘mild to moderate’ pelvic floor dysfunction following birth; ultimately reducing the number of women living with pelvic floor dysfunction postnatally and in later life.
The Overarching Responsibilities Of The PPHS Will Be To
- Embed evidence-based practice in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to prevent and mitigate pelvic floor dysfunction resulting from pregnancy and childbirth.
- Improve the rate of identification of pelvic floor issues antenatally and postnatally.
- Ensure timely access to NICE-recommended treatment for common pelvic health issues antenatally and postnatally.
As LMNS Perineal Midwife, the post holder will support the PPPH pathways improve access to perineal services to support women throughout their pregnancy, birth and post birth; and ensure that all women have access to multidisciplinary pelvic health clinics and pathways. This key role will be autonomous but will work closely with frontline staff, in particular the Service Improvement Manager and the Physiotherapy Clinical Lead.
The Perineal Midwife will provide midwifery support within South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT) and the wider Coventry & Warwickshire Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS) to make a significant contribution to the strategic direction of the perinatal pelvic health service (PPHS).
The primary aim of the role is to ensure that a high-quality PPHS is delivered to women and their families within the integrated pathway. This role is to support the PPHS activities within the LMNS until their completion and thereafter to support PPHS activities within SWFT where the post holder will be based. There may also be cross site working at George Elliot Hospital (GEH) where required.
The post holder will work in co-production with the LMNS membership, Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP), three maternity trusts (SWFT, UHCW and GEH) and the NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).
