1. Clinical Care & Patient Management

Assist consultants in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of obstetric and gynaecologic patients.
Take detailed patient histories, perform physical examinations, and document findings.
Monitor vital signs, fetal heart rate, and maternal well-being during antenatal visits or labour.
Assist in conducting and documenting antenatal check-ups, routine gynaecological exams, and postpartum assessments.
Prepare patients for procedures such as Pap smears, IUD insertions, and minor surgeries.
Support labour room activities under supervision – including assisting in normal deliveries and emergency situations.
Manage patient follow-up, medication instructions, and discharge planning as directed by the consultant.

2. Procedures & Clinical Assistance

Assist during Caesarean sections, hysterectomies, D&C, laparoscopies, and other surgical procedures.
Prepare and maintain sterile fields and instruments in collaboration with nursing and OT staff.
Collect, label, and dispatch laboratory specimens (blood, urine, cultures, etc.).
Maintain surgical notes, procedure logs, and postoperative records.

3. Patient Education & Counseling

Provide education on antenatal and postnatal care, breastfeeding, contraception, and women’s health issues.
Counsel patients and families regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up requirements.
Promote awareness about preventive health screenings (Pap smear, breast self-exam, etc.).

4. Administrative & Documentation Support

Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Coordinate appointments, investigations, and referrals for patients.
Support the OBG department in audit data collection, case documentation, and reporting.

5. Emergency & On-Call Support

Respond promptly to obstetric and gynaecological emergencies (e.g., postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, fetal distress).
Assist in triage and initial stabilization of emergency patients until consultant arrival.
