The counselor will work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary perinatal team, providing comprehensive genetic counseling to individuals and families during pregnancy. Prenatal Genetic Counselor – Jefferson Einstein Maternal–Fetal Medicine
Location: Philadelphia, PA Department: Maternal–Fetal Medicine, Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia & Einstein Medical Center Montgomery Organization: Jefferson Einstein Health / Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (no call)
Essential Responsibilities
- Obtain and interpret detailed family and medical histories to assess genetic and reproductive risks.
- Provide expert counseling on prenatal screening and diagnostic options, including NIPT, carrier screening, CVS, and amniocentesis.
- Communicate genetic test results and implications to patients and healthcare providers in a clear, empathetic manner.
- Coordinate specimen collection, laboratory communication, and follow-up of genetic test results.
- Collaborate with MFM physicians, obstetric providers, sonographers, neonatologists, and pediatric subspecialists to optimize patient care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and patient care meetings.
- Assist with resident, fellow, and medical student education within the department.
- Engage in program development, quality improvement, and research initiatives as appropriate.
- Ensure documentation and counseling meet institutional, ethical, and legal standards.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling from an ACGC-accredited program.
- Board Certification or Eligibility from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG).
- Eligible for Pennsylvania state licensure as a Genetic Counselor.
- Prior experience in prenatal or perinatal genetics preferred; new graduates with strong clinical skills are welcome to apply.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
