Position Summary— The Public Health Nurse II serves a critical role within the Catawba Nation Health Authority, providing program oversight in Tribal Health Programs and initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Public Health, this position applies nursing knowledge in both public health and primary care settings to support individual and community wellness.
This role directly supports the mission of the Catawba Indian Nation (CIN) by promoting Catawba culture, education, and self-sufficiency, while advancing economic and health opportunities for tribal members and community.

Support the Director of Public Health in planning, implementing, and evaluating tribal public health programs, services, and initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with medical providers and clinical staff to deliver comprehensive, person-centered primary care across the lifespan.

Work collaboratively across programs and departments to integrate public health services in a holistic manner while maintaining cultural relevance and community engagement.

Build and maintain trusted relationships with tribal members and community.

Collect, analyze, and report data to support program evaluation and health planning.

Conduct health education and promotion activities for tribal members and community.

Participate in community-based outreach and off-site clinical activities as needed to meet program goals.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and program evaluation activities.

Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with departmental policies and procedures as well as all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications
Education:
- Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Experience:
- Minimum one (1) year of professional nursing experience.
Licenses & Certifications:
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina by the S. C. Board of Nursing. or a license from a compact state.

Valid driver’s license and be insurable on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
Desirable Qualifications:

First Aid and CPR certified preferred.

Experience in one or more of the following program areas is highly desirable:
-
Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health, Communicable Disease Control, Immunizations, Chronic Disease Prevention and Management, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP), Health Promotion and Community Outreach.

Experience working with diverse populations, including Indigenous communities, and an understanding of culturally responsive care and trauma-informed practice.
- Familiarity with social, cultural, and environmental determinants of health affecting tribal and rural communities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Willingness and ability to attend trainings and continuing education as required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

May be required to work on-call, after hours, or during public health emergencies to ensure continuity of essential services.

Work is performed in a variety of settings including public health clinics, schools, homes, community centers and office environments.
- May be required to travel to off-site clinics, community events and partner agency meetings.
- Reliable transportation required for travel to various community and health service sites.
