About the role
Mater Mothers’ Hospital is hiring an Education Coordinator on our Neonatal SwIM Project. This is a maximum-term opportunity until the 30th of June 2026, working 16 hours per week.
The Neonatal SwIM Education Coordinator leads the coordination and delivery of the Neonatal Strength with Immersion and Upskilling Model (SwIM) Program. This initiative supports the development of neonatal nursing capability across Queensland through immersive clinical placements, simulation-based training, and mentorship. The program is designed to upskill nurses in high-acuity neonatal care, particularly those from regional, rural, and remote areas, and aligns with Queensland Health’s strategic workforce priorities.
Working in collaboration with the General Manager, Director of Clinical Services, Assistant Directors of Clinical Services, Director of Clinical Education, Education Coordinators, and Clinical Facilitators, the role oversees all elements of the Neonatal SwIM Program. This includes clinical integration, participant support, competency development, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 (RN3) per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Plan and Deliver Immersive Neonatal Placements
Coordinate and support hands-on clinical placements across NCCU areas (e.g., Preterm MICU, Cardiac SICU, Special Care), based on identified learning needs.
- Collaborate with Education and Clinical Teams
Work closely with the OCMwO team, SwIM coordinator, Education Coordinators, and Clinical Facilitators to tailor learning and mentorship to participant needs.
- Facilitate Simulation and Extended Service Exposure
Enable access to simulation-based education and specialised services (e.g., HOPE, ROP, lactation, antenatal counselling) to enhance participant experience.
- Support Learning Module and Assessment Development
Contribute to the design and refinement of neonatal-specific learning resources and practical assessments aligned with national standards.
- Lead Participant Onboarding, Mentorship, and Support
Act as a key contact for participant orientation, debriefing, and mentoring; ensure learning goals are communicated and supported across stakeholders.
- Foster a Community of Practice
Promote a connected and supportive professional network among neonatal nurses to enable ongoing development and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor and Evaluate Program Outcomes
Contribute to quarterly reporting, including program evaluation, satisfaction tracking, and identification of expansion opportunities.
- Ensure Governance and Compliance
Partner with the SwIM coordinator to uphold safety, credentialing, and professional standards; manage complaints and quality assurance processes.
- Drive Continuous Improvement and Innovation
Seek out and implement opportunities to enhance education delivery and clinical practice in collaboration with key teams.
- Maintain Effective Communication and Reporting
Utilise digital tools to document participant progress, generate reports, and provide feedback to stakeholders, including line managers.
About you
To be successful in this position you will have:
- Current and unrestricted registration with Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with neonatal experience.
- Post graduate qualifications in the relevant specialty (Nursing / Midwifery and/or Education) or working towards same.
- Demonstrated competence in Neonatal Ventilation
Desired
- Minimum of five (5) years post graduate cumulative clinical experience
