Kirkton Veterinary Professional Corporation is seeking a highly detail-oriented and motivated individual to join our growing embryo transfer (ET) and ovum pick-up (OPU) team as an Embryologist.
This part-time position, with the potential to add additional hours, offers the opportunity to develop hands-on skills in bovine embryology while supporting administrative functions within our reproductive services team.
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training in all laboratory processes to ensure consistency with our protocols and standards. If you have a science background and a strong attention to detail, we can teach you the rest!
Job Description
Ovum Pick-Up (OPU) Laboratory
- Assist with lab set-up and preparation
- Perform oocyte processing (filtering, searching, grading, and packaging)
- Perform embryo staging/grading and loading of fresh IVF embryos
- Maintain and monitor supplies inventory
- Assist with Dominant Follicle Reductions (DFR)
Embryo Transfer (ET) Laboratory
- Assist with lab set-up and preparation
- Perform embryo processing, including filtering, searching, staging/grading, and loading for fresh transfer or for freezing
- Complete and maintain paperwork and flush worksheets with attention to detail and accuracy
- Handle frozen embryo inventory and storage
- Maintain ET supplies inventory
- Assist with DFR
Administrative Support
- Provide customer service support (answering phones, assisting walk-ins, and client communication)
- Offer holiday coverage for administrative team members
- Support data entry and documentation as needed
Qualifications
- Completion of a degree or diploma in a science-related field (biology, animal science, or similar preferred)
- Exceptional attention to detail and willingness to learn are essential
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning new software
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
- Previous lab or embryology experience is an asset, but we will train the right candidate
Position Details
- Part-time, approximately 20-25 hours per week, typically earlier in the day (no evenings or weekends)
- Compensation based on experience
- Potential to increase hours over time
