The Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative (RWHC) is a cooperative owned and operated by 40 rural hospitals. In October of 2024 we launched a Maternity Services Workgroup (MSWG) at member request aimed at maximizing the ongoing supply and quality of maternity services in rural Wisconsin. We are looking to hire a staff member to coordinate the member-driven work of the MSWG.
RWHC has received private, philanthropic funding guaranteed for 4 years to fund this position. We have a strong track record of creating sustainable programs that continue functioning and employing staff many years after initial grant funding but want to provide certainty about the funding source for this work given recent federal challenges experienced by many. We anticipate seeking additional funding to prolong the position duration.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a self-starter that takes initiative, is proactive, and values responsiveness to member needs
- Possess an interest in and passion for rural maternal care and rural healthcare as a whole
- Have strong coordination skills, both internally and externally, among hospital partners, other membership associations, education partners, and tertiary care providers
- Have relevant experience such as: clinical experience in prenatal, labor and delivery or postpartum care (inpatient or outpatient), quality improvement, healthcare project management, etc.
- Have strong communication skills, both written and orally, and be comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Be comfortable taking on a new role and trying new, different, and innovative things to solve entrenched problems (be creative!)
- Be comfortable working directly with providers, other clinical staff, and hospital leadership
Job responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and co-facilitate Maternity Services Workgroup meetings and its subgroups (4); Provide project management for the priorities of the workgroup
- Implement collaborative projects identified by the MSWG. This will be the position’s primary role. Current projects that have been identified as priorities include but are not limited to:
o Traveling quality improvement support for rural, low-volume birth centers
o Developing a repository of patient safety guidelines, standards of care, diversion guidelines, drills, training requirements and orientation guidelines
o Building educational partnerships focused on rural training between rural hospitals and training institutions such as UW, WTCS schools, etc.
o Develop a provider mentorship program to support increased retention of rural obstetrical providers
o Support explorations and implementations of alternate staffing models with increased sustainability
o Explore the development of a locum surgical pool, proactive cross-credentialing, coverage agreements, and other workforce flexibility pilot programs to support continuous obstetrical coverage
o Legislative and payer advocacy surrounding maternity care topics, with support from RWHC’s Director of Advocacy and Director of Insurance Contracting
- Assist in grant writing for rural maternity projects as needed
- Facilitate best-practice sharing between network member organizations
- Travel to rural hospitals across the state as needed
- Speak at / attend professional development activities to promote rural maternal solutions developed by the MSWG
- Work collaboratively with other RWHC staff on maternity projects and other projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Ability to utilize technology such as email, Microsoft Office products (incl. Excel), Zoom, etc.
- Ability to travel via car independently to member locations
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment with some time in person at RWHC’s Office located in Sauk City, WI. Statewide candidates are encouraged to apply.
