Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Post Partum unit provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and their newborns following childbirth. This role involves monitoring patients’ physical and emotional well-being, educating families on newborn care, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure safe recovery and successful discharge.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the condition of post-partum mothers, including vital signs, bleeding, and pain management.
- Assess newborns for health status and provide care such as feeding support, diapering, and bathing assistance.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians.
- Educate mothers and families on breastfeeding techniques, newborn care, and post-partum recovery.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to mothers and families during the post-partum period.
- Document patient care, observations, and progress in electronic health records (EHR).
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, including obstetricians, pediatricians, and lactation consultants, to coordinate care.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and hospital policies.
- Respond promptly to any post-partum complications or emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in maternity, post-partum, or neonatal nursing preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and patient education skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Advanced certifications related to maternal-child health or lactation consulting.
Certifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (preferred).
