Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre offers holistic programs based on cultural and traditional values. Building Better Babies (BBB – prenatal to six months) and Creating Healthy Families (CHF – birth to six years) are two separate parenting programs with mandates that support families in their personal wellness; strengthening parenting skills; understanding of infant/child development; healthy nutrition; safety as well as connection to culture and community.
Function:
The BBB and CHF Support Worker will work in the standards, philosophy and mission statement of the Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre while under the supervision of BBB/CHF Coordinator and Management Team. The BBB and CHF Support Worker will be responsible for co-facilitating drop-in parenting groups and providing outreach support with parents.
Responsibilities:
- Assists with BBB and CHF drop-in groups including brainstorming topics and activities; setting up; providing participant transportation; engaging with families; and, cleaning up
- Coordinate individualized outreach support services to connect parents with personal wellness activities, culture, food security, community programs and attend pre/postnatal medical appointments
- Support parents with their healthy pregnancy goals, preparing for baby’s arrival, postnatal wellness, infant care and life skills during groups, in their homes and in the community
- Work with parents living in recovery, with addiction, mental health, homelessness or poverty in a supportive, respectful and non-judgmental manner
- Provide support at meetings and appointments with social workers if requested by parents
- Problem solving, identifying parents’ needs, case management and referrals to programs
- Regularly maintain points of service, client files and case notes in professional manner
- Participate in on-going professional development with relevance to their job description and personal professional interests to meet the on-going needs of participants.
Education and Experience:
Para-professional training in pre/postnatal care, early childhood care, social services, counselling, or First Nations Studies as well as life experiences. Candidates should have a healthy lifestyle.
