About this position:
Postpartum doulas provide compassionate support and guidance to individuals and families after the birth of a baby. They help navigate the early weeks of parenthood by answering questions, offering practical assistance, and providing in-person or virtual care following labor and birth.
Pacify postpartum doulas are trained, certified, and experienced professionals who deliver care with empathy and without judgment, respecting parents’ personal choices and birth experiences. This role is an Independent Contractor position and requires being located in the State of Delaware. Some in-person work may be required.
All Pacify Doulas are required to function within the Pacify Doula Scope of Care:
- Provide physical, emotional and informational support to people, partners and families during the postpartum period
- Commit to ongoing continuing education to maintain your doula certification/credentials
- Provide evidence-based information and resources
- Empower parents to make informed decisions, facilitate communication with healthcare providers and encourage shared decision-making
- Encourage self-efficacy
- Provide advocacy, but do not speak for clients
- Provide support, but do not take agency away from clients
- Provide recommendations, but do not give medical advice
- Refer all callers back to local healthcare providers for all medical questions and concerns
- Follow Pacify’s Policies and Procedures, including the Code of Conduct.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide postpartum planning support (as applicable); conduct in-person postpartum shifts (where available)
- Assist clients in creating a postpartum plan or wish list
- Advocate for the client's needs and preferences while understanding your scope of care
- Provide evidence-based education to parents on birth recovery, newborn care, breastfeeding and the postpartum period
- Create detailed and accurate records, according to Pacify’s policies and procedures, of client interactions by completing charts after each visit
- Stay current with the latest research in the field of childbirth and postpartum support
- Maintain the requirements as a certified doula, including state-required continuing education, to stay active as a Pacify doula
- Respond to all emails sent from the Clinical Team, when requested
- Follow all Pacify Doula Policy and Procedures, including the Code of Conduct, on all Pacify calls/visits and specifically how to refer callers if the questions or situation is out of the scope of care of Pacify
- Complete yearly requirements and pass quizzes on HIPAA, FWA (Fraud, Waste and Abuse), Security Awareness, and DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion).
Necessary Job Requirements:
- MUST be a certified postpartum or full-spectrum doula
- Certification must be active throughout employment at Pacify
- Within 30 days of hire, all doulas will be expected to have:
- NPI number
- CAQH number
- CPR certification (adult and infant)
- Background check and fingerprinting
- A big heart and an open mind
- Empathy and a non-judgmental perspective are essential
- Effective communication with clients and team members
- Tech requirement: Must have a laptop or tablet/iPad in addition to a mobile phone
- Must have an iPhone 8 or newer model if there is availability to participate in the virtual doula network
- Must be a US citizen
