Nepean Hospital is a major referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. Nepean Hospital is recognised as comprising one of the largest and busiest maternity care facilities in Western Sydney. The tertiary level public hospital provides care for approximately 4000 births per year, including high risk antenatal care, and services the state’s highest population of high-risk groups such as Aboriginal and Pacific Islander women.
As a leading tertiary referral hospital, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital has established a high quality and comprehensive service in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), supported by a level 6 Neonatal Unit, Fetal Cardiology, Regional Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic, and Perinatal Ultrasound Service. The Maternal Fetal Medicine Provisional Fellow position is well suited for those who wish to complete CMFM training, DDU training or those who wishes to train in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound or management of high risk Obstetric patients.
What You'll Be Doing
- Management of high risk obstetric patient in wards and clinics.
- Participating rural MFM clinic.
- Attending ultrasound lists.
- Participating MFM related procedures.
- Attending fetal cardiology sessions.
- Attending, participating in and chairing regular education session including department M&M.
- Participating in research projects.
- Participating in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster.
Where you'll be working
- MFM Fellows will be mainly based on in the Maternal Fetal Medicine unit, based on Perinatal Ultrasound Department, Nepean Hospital.
- Occasionally, Fellows will be required to attend regional MFM clinic or Telehealth clinic.
- Trainees will be working in following area;
- Perinatal Ultrasound department
- Antenatal Clinic
- Birth Unit
- Antenatal and Postnatal Ward
- Regional MFM clinic. Obstetric experience is predominantly at Nepean Hospital with Gynaecological Surgery offered at all sites.
Essential Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completion of 4 years of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Integrated Training Programme (ITP) and successful completion of the MRANZCOG exam or equivalent.
- Current registration as a trainee with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (or eligible for) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the College.
- Demonstrated commitment to O&G and MFM training program and related medical experience.
- Recent relevant clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role.
- This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

- Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
